At Otakon last month, a couple friends and I were chatting about how we’ve seen Iron Man and Captain America sweatshirts, but none of the other Avengers, and I was challenged a bit to design one! Thor is my favourite of the group, so I thought “why not?! This should be a fun project!”
The design was mostly inspired by Thor’s original outfit in the comics. I used the few bronze-age issues I own for getting specifics right. Since he’s usually sleeveless, I had the sleeves reflect a similar diamond-pattern in the armour worn in the Thor and Avengers film. Took a few artistic liberties with the hood. Didn’t want feathers to be coming off and up the sides/top, so I just sewed 3 on each side to pay homage to the design of Thor’s helmet.
The whole hoodie is made from fleece, machine-stitched. The diamond pattern was hand-patterned and stitched onto the fleece in both silver & black. The belt and feathers were appliqued with a straight stitch, and the 6 discs on the front were appliqued with a satin stitch.
This sweatshirt is so warm and roomy, I love how it came out! It is a nice replacement for my old, falling apart, paint-covered hoodie, hahahaha.
